AND THE WINNER OF THE DAVID Y MASON AWARD 2024 is . . .
The David Mason Award 2024 has been awarded to Leonie Frauenfeld at Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS)/ Hospital Cliníc Barcelona for her project “Unravelling the molecular heterogeneity of CD23+-BCL2R- follicle center lymphomas“.
While the pathogenesis of follicular lymphoma with t(14;18) translocations is well known, alternative forms of follicular lymphoma, lacking this translocation are less studied. Dr. Leonie Frauenfeld aims to analyse the clinicopathological features of one of these alternative forms of follicular lymphoma; CD23+BCL2-R- follicle center lymphoma. Her project will include the analyses of copy number alterations, mutational profile and also whole exome sequencing with paired normal DNA.
The international jury appreciated the high scientific quality and the novelty of the proposal. Moreover, they felt that this research is a good example of the intention of the David Mason Award program: to support a junior scientist to perform innovative research in the “spirit” of David Mason; using novel technology for the benefit of patients.
